Historian Andrew Holman is a student of the game of Lacrosse, and of the exploits of an early Arnprior practitioner, Frank Grace.
Some of us are old enough to remember that lacrosse is officially “Canada’s National Game”, or so we were taught in school.
When Frank Grace began his exploits in the sport of lacrosse in the 1890s, there was a thriving local league.
Grace graduated from Valley competitions to the next level in the Nation’s capital.
Holman uses the term “competitive lacrosse”, rather than “professional lacrosse”.
Frank Grace’s early prowess in Arnprior subsequently took him across the globe as an ambassador for the sport.
Andrew Holman is a former legislative assistant to MPP Sean Conway, hence his invitation to the Bromley Historical Society for Saturday’s presentation.
Drawing upon Grace’s detailed diary/scrapbook, Professor Holman will speak about Grace’s proud Irish Ottawa Valley roots and his tours of the far reaches of the globe.
The event, which begins at 2PM is open and free to the public, light refreshments will be served following the presentation.
