A Combermere man is facing charges for being caught with counterfeit deer tags and hunting deer without a license. Conservation officers began investigating back in November of 2022. While out on patrol in Bangor Township, Hastings County the officer contacted Ernie Coulas at a hunt camp, where he claimed to be wolf hunting. After an inspection it was determined that Coulas was in possession of a 2022 deer tag and he had already used the tag earlier in the year. Coulas was also found to be in possession of two copies of a deer tag – one he had made the morning. Coulas pleaded guilty to the offence and received a total of $6,000 in fines. In addition to the tag violations, Coulas was also found to be deer hunting without a license.
