One line in Interim Fire Chief Jeff Crawford’s quarterly report to McNab-Braeside Township Council sparked a flurry of discussion over the fate of a 1995 Fire Rescue Truck in the municipality’s fleet:
“Rescue truck needs major engine work. May need to consider replacement.”
Crawford says from there, the plot thickens.
The shop then got a third party to repair the fuel pump, put things back together, took it for a test drive and blew the motor.
The Interim Chief says he kept pressing the repair shop on the matter.
Speculation at the Council table suggested the repair shop may have attached the repaired pump, but neglected to replace the motor oil.
Crawford says the anticipated engine life is 74 times greater than what’s showing on the odometre.
Scott Brum, now in his third term on Council says the low-mileage engine was why the truck was purchased in the first place, while Deputy Mayor Lori Hoddinott believes a legal letter to the repair shop may well prompt them to pony up.
