In a significant development for Renfrew County, the Ministry of Health has pledged continued financial support for the Expanding Community Paramedicine program (formerly CP HISH). This initiative helps high-care-needs patients transition from hospitals to homes or communities with essential support from Community Paramedics.
Carl Bonura, Director at Ontario Health East, announced via email that the program’s funding is now secure as it has shifted to a base funding model. This means no more annual reviews; the funding commitment is ongoing.
Renfrew County will receive $133,000 for 2023-24 and $231,700 for 2024-25. This boost will enable the program to expand its reach.
The Expanding Community Paramedicine program plays a vital role in aiding patients with complex care needs during transitions, reducing the burden on healthcare facilities. Stable funding ensures its long-term sustainability, benefiting Renfrew County and the province.
