The Renfrew Golf Club has a shiny new piece of hardware for its trophy case after a big win this past weekend.
The club’s fourteen-member team served as hosts for the 94th Gordon Cup, overcoming a nine-stroke deficit after the first day of play to win by sixteen strokes on Sunday, September 10th.
It’s the first cup win for the Renfrew Golf Club since 2008 and puts a halt to a four-year win streak by a strong Pembroke Golf Club team that was able to set a new team record for the tournament just last year.
The Gordon Cup has been an ongoing tradition since 1930, when Renfrew businessman J.P. Gordon announced he would award the winner of the Ottawa Valley Golf Championship with the trophy.
Teams from across the Valley have played each year without interruption ever since, with the 95th Gordon Cup to be played next September at the Sand Point Golf Club.
