A grueling competition will keep Garrision Petawawa buzzing over the weekend.
The 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade group will host its 40th annual Iron Warrior competition, with soldiers pushing their mental and physical limits during a 42-kilometre marathon on Friday, August 25th, and a 21-kilometre sprint on Saturday, August 26th.
The challenge will take them on both land and water with forced marches while carrying weighted rucksacks, canoe portages and paddling on the way to the final march to the finish line.
Participants and event staff will be seen around Petawawa, along the Ottawa River, and at Petawawa Point.
The military is working to make sure that disruptions will be minimal, but there will be a blank artillery round fired to mark the start of the competition both days.
If you’re in the area and see the competitors taking part, you’re encouraged to show your support.
