If you have space in your life to help an animal in need, Riverview Rescues wants your help.
Founder Laura Pelkey says they have an urgent need for foster homes, which they rely on in order to provide those animals with safety and stability while in their care.
The usual commitment for a foster family is between 4 and 8 weeks, but there have been cases where the animal was fostered for 9 months to a year.
Pelkey says that you’ll not only be giving the foster animal a chance to get used to a home environment with people and maybe other animals during that time, but you’ll also help Riverview Rescues learn more about that animal, making it easier to find the best home possible for them when it’s time for adoption.
She adds that helping a sheltered animal is a great opportunity for people thinking about adopting to see if it’s right for them.
If you’re interested, Riverview Rescues will need you to be able to make trips into Kanata for veterinary visits. They also ask that any other pets in the household be spayed or neutered in order to avoid behavioral issues or unwanted pregnancies.
Pelkey adds that they will cover vetting, food, supplies, and support while you foster a pet for them.
You can find out more about the foster and adoption process on the Riverview Rescues website, and a direct form to apply as a foster home is here.
