Will there be a major splash when the group looking to bring a swimming pool to Renfrew meet up on Tuesday, July 18th?
The Ma-Te-Way Aquatic Centre Development Project will have their second annual general meeting starting at 7:00pm inside the Argyle Street Recreation Centre.
You’re invited to attend as they provide an update on their finances, appoint new members, and answer questions from the public.
Their most recent announcement was back in October of 2022 when they were handed more than $300,000 by the estate of Janet Wilson, a local teacher who was part of the first efforts to bring a pool to Renfrew.
At that time, the MACDP reported that they were in possession of the Ruth Burwell fund, around $170,000 set aside to assist in the construction of a local swimming pool. Together with a $300,000 donation from the estate of a local resident that was delivered to the town, there is approximately $500,000 in funds dedicated to the effort.

Correction: We originally reported that the MACDP was in possession of all $500,000 that has been bequeathed to develop an aquatics centre in Renfrew. That was not accurate and the story has been edited to reflect the accurate state of the funds.
