A “blight on the town” of Renfrew has the town council ready to review certain policies.
A motion to have Renfrew’s Infrastructure and Public Works team go over its graffiti management protocols passed at the most recent council meeting.
Chief Administrative Officer Rob Tremblay explains that it’s just part of the solution to the rash of tags recently sprayed on public and private buildings alike.
However, Councilor Andrew Dick says one affected business owner has been asking him what’s being done to crack down on it after a long wait to report the crime.
Councilor and Police Services Board member Jason Legris explained that a manpower problem at the local detachment is why they have been struggling to keep pace with the tagging as it happens.
The passed motion will also allow the town’s Community Services Team to look into a potential public mural program as a means to beautify the town and prevent further acts of vandalism, such as graffiti.
Town staff are expected to report back on both components by the end of the year.
