The Renfrew Public Library
The Town of Renfrew wants you to stay cool under Environment Canada’s ongoing heat warning for the Ottawa Valley.
Town Staff say four indoor cooling stations are set up for residents and visitors to take advantage of while we wait for an expected dip in temperature ahead of the weekend:
The Renfrew Public Library on Railroad Avenue opens on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.
You can also opt to cool off at the Renfrew Recreation Centre at 67 Argyle Street South, which opens Monday to Friday from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm and weekends from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm.
Overheated residents who are on their way towards Highway 132 might want to consider getting comfortable inside the Ma-te-Way Activity Centre. It’s open daily from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Lastly, if you find yourself in need of a break from the heat close to O’Brien Road and Highway 17, the Renfrew Visitors Information Centre on Mask Road is air-conditioned and ready to welcome you in every day from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
If all else fails, the town says that the splash pad at Ma-te-Way Park might also help. It’s open daily 7:00 am to 9:00 pm.
The weather forecast in the Renfrew area this past week has been ideal for an elevated risk of heat stroke and heat exhaustion, especially for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and people working or exercising outdoors.
Environment Canada has been advising local residents to seek cool spaces whenever possible and to drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty.
