The Arnprior and District Family Health Team (ADFHT) designed The Walking Group for anybody who wants to walk, but may not be motivated to do it on their own or doesn’t feel safe doing it independently.
Danielle Hill, Respiratory Therapist with the ADFHT says the May to September group is an established tradition in the community.
She says the camaraderie of group participation has many benefits.
Hill says getting an early and regular start establishes a positive routine.
The free program is open to all residents, and two ADFHT staff members attend each session leading a warmup at the beginning and a stretch at the end.
The staff members also record how many times each person goes around the track, always encouraging participants to increase their number of steps over time.
For those with a chronic disease, like a heart issue, COPD, or diabetes, physical activity is one of the best things you can do.
The Walking Group runs from May until the end of September and meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 to 8:30 am at the Arnprior District High School track. Anyone interested in learning more or joining can contact the Arnprior and District Family Health Team at 613-622-5763.
