It is only fitting for Renfrew’s newest restaurant to hold it’s grand opening on National Indigenous Peoples Day.
Suzette Foucault used the special occasion on Wednesday, June 21st, to cut the ribbon for the new Manitou Bistro on Raglan Street.
She tells myFM that the name Manitou means “spirit,” and good spirits are what she hopes to bring to the town by tapping into her own Indigenous roots for the kind of soul food that she learned growing up in the family kitchen.
Mayor Tom Sidney and a group of local Indigenous drummers were on hand to help with the ceremony, as were members of the Downtown Renfrew Business Improvement Area.
Foucault says the resources and support the the BIA has given to her since she decided to launch the restaurant has helped to make it all happen.
Reservations are being taken right now, but they are also welcoming people to drop in and enjoy a meal.
