After this, Maloney Road in Renfrew will hopefully sag no more.
On Tuesday, June 13th, Renfrew Town Council approved a bid from RGT Clouthier Construction LTD. on a project to replace and upgrade the 8.5 metre deep culvert underneath the road which failed back in 2021.
Director of Infrastructure and Works Connor Jamieson says the job is about preparing for a greater need for storm drainage in the area.
The project will also fix the portion of the road and guide rail above the culvert, which has begun to sag and tilt. Notably steep slopes that allow the culvert through the ground will also be stabilized and a fresh pave of asphalt will take place to wrap up the project.
Reeve Peter Emon echoed Director Jamieson’s sentiment that getting this project is about thinking ahead of time when it comes to the town’s storm drainage system.
Being able to line the culvert might prolong its usefulness and give the town more time before needing to be replaced completely.
The project will cost a total of $713,013, which Treasurer Erin Broome reports can be funded through the town’s Roads Reserve.
