Nice looking new intersection: who’s paying for that?
The reconfiguration of the Daniel and Edey/Galvin intersection will take care of some safety worries at the revamped corner when it’s done in September, for an estimated cost of $2.15 million dollars.
That’s according to figures shared with Town Council June 12th by Treasurer Jennifer Morawiec.
Because the County share of the project and the Federal Gas Tax money released for the work are both amounts less-than-anticipated, the Town’s Reserves will have to swallow the hit.
It was hoped Renfrew County, the actual owner of County Highway 2, (a.k.a. Daniel Street), would put up 700 thousand for the job, but the upper tier fell 15,643 dollars short.
The Canada Community Building Fund was the major culprit in the blame game; the 291,062 dollars garnered was just over half of the 562,377 dollars asked for.
The Town won’t run a boot toll to collect the difference, nor will it hike your taxes.
This leaves the municipality’s Capital Expenses Reserve Fund on the hook for the extra 286,565 dollars in missing revenue from outside sources.
