Renfrew’s Parks and Recreation staff will try to find the right balance as heavy smoke continues to roll through Renfrew.
Director Jordan Wall says his team is aware of air quality concerns caused by forest fires in the area and will still be out doing their daily tasks while wearing proper protection like masks and staying inside as much as possible.
It comes as Renfrew Fire Chief Mike Guest reminds the public that smoke is hazardous to everyone’s health, even in low concentrations.
Waiting out the smoke indoors might be the best course of action for people at high risk of smoke inhalation. That includes people who work outdoors, the elderly, pregnant women, children, and people with heart or lung disease.
He’s also advising residents who are interested in staying up to date with the air quality forecast and learning more about the impact it has on their health to check out Environment Canada’s Air Quality Index page.
Guest also reminds you that a total fire and burn ban is still in effect for the Renfrew area, adding that town staff will let you know when it’s safe to burn again. Find out more about the laws regarding burn bans and what you can do to stay safe here.
