Some might think little details are for the hounds, but not the Town of Renfrew.
They’ve come to an agreement with Whitewater Region for the use of the municipal animal pound on Lisgar Avenue until 2027.
The usage fee starts at $1,000 for the first year and increases slowly over the term of the deal to $1,850 plus a $10 a day surcharge per stray pet, something Reeve Peter Emon says makes for good neighbours.
By “breaking the municipal mold” and gradually introducing higher rates through the deal, he says Renfrew has done a good job at maintaining deals and relationships with nearby townships.
Similar deals to share the Lisgar Avenue pound are in currently place with the Townships of Horton, Admaston/Bromley, Greater Madawaska, and McNab-Braeside. All of those deals run until at least 2026.
