Is it a couple of ATV riders ruining it for everyone else, or is it a more common problem?
A motion to review Renfrew’s ATV by-law was brought to Town Council’s Tuesday, April 25th meeting by Mayor Tom Sidney after a number of noise and speed complaints from Renfrew residents.
The exact number of complaints made was not known at that time, but Council noted that a few that they had heard came from streets near the Algonquin and Millennium Trails, like McAndrew Avenue and Barnet Boulevard.
Councilor Clint McWhirter pointed out that his own neighbourhood has had first-hand experience with ATVs racing late at night.
Chief Administrative Officer Rob Tremblay says the issue appears to be enforcing the by-law itself.
He adds that the review will include sitting down with local police, the Ministry of Transportation, Renfrew’s by-law officers, the County of Renfrew, and ATV clubs that operate in the area.
Councilor Jason Legris was hopeful to get more details on the complaints from the Police Services Board later in the week.
The review is expected to be completed by the end of the year, and will specifically look at speeds and travel for ATVs along Highway 60 as well as how to better enforce the by-law itself.
