Ontario Provincial Police have changed their policy when it comes to releasing names of those killed in tragedy. The question was posed after a recent fatal collision on Highway 17 in Petawawa, where a 26-year-old lost their life. Manager of Media Relations with the OPP Bill Dickson tells us that they made the move to simply protect the families.
Dickson also tells us that they understand that names will still get out to the public, but it won’t be on their watch.
However, when it comes to public safety, Dickson says that’s a different scenario.
