Renfrew’s fraternity of Masons are opening their doors to the public later this month.
Member Pat Goegan says you can drop by their Lodge on the top floor of the historic O’Brien Apartments along Raglan Street South on Saturday, April 29th.
Speaking with myFM in the morning, Goegan added that Masons have a long history in Renfrew dating back to 1859, when Renfrew Lodge 122 became the first of it’s kind established in the Upper Ottawa Valley.
The Lodge would eventually move into the O’Brien Apartments after a deal in the 1980’s to purchase the property.
You’ll be able to take a self guided tour through their hall and ask Masons on hand questions about their history and work within the community.
You can also learn more about becoming a member, as Goegan says men aged 21 and older who are good community and family people are welcome to join on.
The apartment building itself shares a fair amount of historic value in Renfrew as well, and Goegan notes it’s a chance for people who might be curious about what’s inside to sate their curiosity.
While some people stereotype Freemasons as a secret society, Goegan says it’s just a way for masons to identify each other and there is nothing secretive about the work they do within the community.
The front doors open at O’Brien Apartments, 340 Raglan Street South, Saturday, April 29th from 9:00am to 11:00am and again from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
