Maple Weekend will have people flocking to syrup producers across the province on April 1st and 2nd.
It’ll be no different locally, as Ray Bonenberg with the Mapleside Sugar Bush in Pembroke says everything is on schedule for a full weekend of free family fun.
Bonenberg tells myFM that some unpredictable weather to start the year has led to a few producers further south to start tapping trees as early as February, but the Mapleside bush has remained seasonably cold.
All that’s needed now is a small stretch of mild days to thaw the trees out as the sugar content of our local maple sap begins to hit its sweet spot.
The sugar bush will one of around seventy producers with the Ontario Maple Syrup Producers’ Association who are welcoming the community in for a tour of the property, as well as demonstrations, food and treats, maple goods and more.
Bonenberg adds that they must have over a dozen different maple-themed product lines for people to choose from.
Mapleside Sugar Bush will be open 10:00am to 4:00pm on both Saturday, April 1st, and Sunday, April 2nd. Most of the day on the property will be free, but food outside the traditional taffy on snow will come with a fee.
