Now is the time to get your child signed up for the upcoming baseball season.
That’s according to Kasia Maves, the new President for Renfrew Minor Baseball, who says registration totals have been encouraging since they started over the March Break.
That doesn’t mean you should wait on it, however, as Maves adds that they do have a target date to wrap up registration ahead of their season opening at the start of May.
Maves is a recent addition to Renfrew Minor Baseball’s Board of Governors, having spent time involved with both minor hockey and baseball in Pembroke before moving her family into town last year.
She tells myFM her long term goal is to grow baseball in the Renfrew area, starting by engaging their younger players in the T-Ball and Rookie leagues in the fun of the sport.
The hope is to eventually have enough players enrolled to be able to field an All-Stars program for older kids looking to play competitive ball without needing to partner with another smaller association nearby.
Maves notes filling the few major positions left on Renfrew Minor Baseball’s board will go along way towards that goal, including finding a Chief Umpire to oversee calling balls and strikes.
Another need is volunteer coaches, especially for their younger leagues so they can keep team sizes small and focus on skill development. To that end, they’re also looking for a coordinator to help coaches with understanding the skill development teaching material and drills.
If your child is interested in playing baseball in Renfrew this year, you can sign up through Renfrew Minor Baseball’s website. News and announcements can also be found through their facebook page.
