As Head Coach Ryan Leonard would put it in a statement through social media after the game, The Renfrew Wolves “came out hungry and took it to the Hawks” on Friday, February 17th in an emphatic 6-1 victory in Hawkesbury.
Tyson Tomasini and Noah Vom Scheidt led the way with a pair of goals each, with Brock Mierzejewski and Joey Kennelly ensuring the game was well out of reach for their opponents. Jakson Kirk, Hawkesbury’s leading scorer, found a late tally to deny the Wolves a shutout.
Wolves goaltender Sebastian Resar picked up his 18th win of the season and earned first start of the game with a 43 save effort on 44 attempts. On the end of the ice, Haweksbury’s Dimitri Pelekos made 39 of 44 saves.
Renfrew’s long weekend continues on Sunday, as the team travels to Pembroke for a home-and-home series with the Lumber Kings. It’ll be the last two games of the season in the Battle of the Valley, with Renfrew leading the series 2-1.
Game time at the Pembroke Memorial Centre on Sunday is 7:00pm.
