Damp, moldy clothes left for volunteers to find at the On the Clothesline Thrift Shop in Renfrew over the New Year's Weekend.
Donations are usually welcomed, but a local thrift store say they could have done without this one.
Sandy Gombik of the On the Clothesline Thrift Store in Renfrew describes the scene over the New Year’s Weekend.
Gombik says their volunteers were floored after finding that someone left piles of moldy clothes left open to the elements while they were closed for the holiday, and the sheer amount left at their receiving bay couldn’t fit into their dumpster.
However, after the store took to facebook with the issue, the person responsible came forward to apologize, claiming they did it for a friend and hadn’t checked their condition before leaving them.
The person who left the clothes behind would end up paying for the cost of taking the items to the local dump. However, Gombik says On the Clothesline would prefer if you made donations during store hours.
Gombik says her rule of thumb for donations is that if you can’t still use it yourself, they probably won’t be able to sell it.
She adds that they can recycle worn out clothing or broken items, but can’t do much if it’s too far gone.
