Over the past week, several overdoses in the area have raised the alarm from our local health unit.
The Renfrew County and District Health Unit says that they haven’t confirmed which substances are the cause, they suspect that in some cases it was laced with a potent opioid such as fentanyl.
They remind you that all street drugs should be considered highly toxic and potentially fatal, but understanding the signs of an overdose could save a life.
Symptoms like slow or irregular breathing, blue or purple fingernails or lips, a loss of consciousness or becoming non-responsive, deep snoring or gurgling sounds, and tiny pupils could be a sign that it’s time to call 9-1-1.
You can learn more and find links to addictions support services, as well as ways to report overdoses anonymously, on the RCDHU Website.
