Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement across the Ottawa Valley calling for a significant winter storm. Rain or snow is expected to start late Thursday before transitioning to rain on Friday. Environment Canada says as temperatures drop on Friday there is the potential for a flash freeze.
The falling temperatures will be accompanied by strong to potentially damaging winds and snow that may be heavy at times. Environment Canada says blizzard like conditions are possible late Friday into the weekend for areas downwind of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.
Details regarding wind speeds, precipitation types and amounts remain highly uncertain at this time. You might want to consider altering plans through the holiday weekend as travel conditions may become dangerous.
Utility outages are also possible and Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first aid kit and flashlight. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada and stay with myFM for the latest updates.
