The OPP wants to help keep packages delivered to your doorstep safe this holiday season.
They’re sharing tips on how to protect your gifts from potential porch pirates who could be tempted by a package left unattended.
Here are some ways that our local police say you can keep would-be thieves from making off with your online orders:
- Request a signature on delivery
- Ship the package to a trusted neighbour or relative who will be home
- Have the packages delivered to your work – if allowed by the employer
- Track your deliveries on-line so you know when they’re slated to arrive and plan to be home upon delivery
- opt for in-store or curb-side pickup wherever possible
- Install video cameras and post signage to indicate surveillance is in effect
- Request the package be left out of sight at a rear or side door
If someone does swipe a package off your front porch, get in touch with both your local police and the company that shipped it.
If you think porch pirates are making runs in your neighbourhood or have seen suspicious activity, you can also tell Renfrew County Crime Stoppers.
