Declarations were signed and pictures were taken as the Town of Renfrew officially swore in council for the new term on the evening of Tuesday, November 15th.
Former councilor Tom Sidney takes over as Mayor and Peter Emon was acclaimed for another term as Reeve. Kyle Cybulski, Andrew Dick, Jason Legris, John McDonald, and Clint McWhirter also had the chance to get used to their new positions at Town Hall as it’s five Council members.
Some incoming councilors admitted they were nervous as they signed their declarations, but Emon tells myFM that they’ll get adjusted to the job quickly.
Emon expects to be busy, splitting time between being Reeve and Warden for Renfrew County, but he says he’s used to it after a previous four-year stint doing both.
With many fresh faces taking seats with our municipal government, new councilor Andrew Dick says they used the leadup to Tuesday night in order to get to know each other better.
Dick says he’s excited to move Renfrew forward, but the wing nights are now on hold because three or more councilors getting together makes a quorum and meeting that way is not allowed.
Lastly, being given the mayor’s chain of office was a surreal experience for Tom Sidney, but he had a few people who understand that feeling all too well in attendance.
He notes having former mayors Audrey Green, Sandi Heins, and Don Eady in attendance represents a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Mayor Sidney says Tuesday evening marks a new chapter for Renfrew, and already has a few propositions lined up for discussion at council next week.
