A soldier from Petawawa will serve at a Remembrance Day ceremony in Ottawa this year. On Friday, November 11th, 2022, Master Corporal (MCpl) Vernon Taylor will stand guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa as part of the Remembrance Day Sentry Program.
Master Corporal Taylor says he is extremely honoured to represent those who currently serve, people who served in the past and those who have fallen in service to our country.
He says Remembrance Day is a way for us to remember and honour the people who gave their lives to give us the country we have today.
In 2009, Master Corporal Taylor joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a combat engineer, was posted to 2 Combat Engineer Regiment in Petawawa and in 2013, he joined the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command. He has completed multiple operational deployments and been recognized with two Task Force Commander’s Commendations.
The Remembrance Day Sentry Program has been part of the annual Remembrance Day ceremony since 1998. Each year, six Canadian Armed Forces members and one RCMP officer are selected to stand vigil at the National War Memorial in Ottawa on Remembrance Day. The Remembrance Day Sentry Program was created to publicly acknowledge exemplary Regular Force and Reserve Force sailors, soldiers, aviators, and Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers.
