The Renfrew Wolves looked to have the game in hand for parts of Friday evening, but would eventually lose to the Rockland Nationals overtime, 4-3.
The game was the first of two the Wolves have to play this weekend, as they made their way to the Rockland Arena sitting second in the Robinson Division early into this season.
Nicolas White would open scoring for the Nationals mid-way though the first period before Renfrew’s Joey Kennelly and Rockland’s Charles Locas would trade tallies in the second.
Renfrew would take the lead in the third period, as Will Ralston picked up his first goal of the season followed by Elvis Slack with his eighth. However, Rockland would even the game up with just under five minutes left in regulation thanks to a goal from defenseman Jordan Prepszl.
Prepszl would call game in overtime, finding the back of the net on the lone scoring change of the extra frame.
Rockland goaltender Hadyn Gould made 39 stops on 42 attempts to hold on for his fourth win of the season. Sebastian Resar stopped 29 of 33 in the losing effort for Renfrew.
The Wolves won’t have much time to lick their wounds, as they’re back home for a Saturday night tilt against a familiar foe in the Ottawa Jr. Senators. Puck drops at the Ma-te-Way Activity Centre at 7:30.
