Operation Christmas Child has been delighting children in the developing world since 1993, and is going strong in our region.
Cathy Stevenson is handling logistics for the program in Arnprior and Renfrew.
She says there are two drop off locations in the Valley.
Acknowledging that Canada’s recent census shows fully 7.8 million of us with no religious affiliation, Stevenson says everyone who wishes can participate- because the act of giving benefits both donor and recipient.
While there is an array of items that can be packed in a shoe box, it is stressed there be no war toys given.
Stevenson says Canadians donated almost 15 thousand shoe boxes last year, for a destination roster that included Central America and West Africa- and this year, the Philippines and Ukraine have been added.
Valley shoe box collection site is Carleton Place, after which they are sent to Calgary and then overseas.
Local deadline is Sunday morning November 20th.
Those who receive a shoebox are invited to attend a companion program of religious education.
