The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP laid 77 charges as part of Operation Impact. The traffic safety campaign took place over the Thanksgiving long weekend (October 7th to 10th). The OPP was targeting impaired, distracted, and aggressive drivers. Officers were also looking to make sure everyone was buckled up including toddlers and children.
Local police handed out 52 speeding tickets, charged four people with seatbelt violations, caught one distracted driver and one person was charged with stunt driving. A 32-year-old from Kingston was also charged for being impaired after the OPP received several traffic complaints of a vehicle in Petawawa that was eventually located on Sandstone Crescent.
The OPP would like to remind everyone that while Operation Impact is over, officers are committed to making safety a top priority on Ontario’s roads, trails and waterways.
