Don’t put your life on the line this fall by fishing or boating near a hydro dam.
That’s the message from Ontario Power Generation, who ask you to respect the warning signs and boundary markers near their stations.
Dams are operated off site and can open at any time of day, causing conditions on the water above or below them to change without warning. Hydroelectric dams can cause strong undertows, turbulence and sudden, powerful gushes of water moving downstream in what was once calm-looking surface water.
While the OPG understands the Ottawa Valley’s waterways are beautiful this time of year, they ask you to keep your safety in mind first and foremost.
