The Renfrew Wolves are running with a new pack of youngsters ahead of Friday’s season opener.
Coach Ryan Leonard says in spite of a lot of new faces, fans can still expect to see a core group that help them make the semi-finals last year.
Leonard adds that his coaching staff spent the offseason targeting size and strength, calling this year’s opening line-up a “pro-sized” team.
Early results are promising for Leonard’s Wolves, as they went unbeaten in their pre-season tune-ups. While he has warned his squad that those games mean little, he is happy to see the team meshing well ahead of start to the season.
There will be a couple of new faces on the bench as well this year, as former assistant Mike Blunden took a coaching position with the Tampa Bay Lightning earlier in the summer.
Leonard has tabbed former Pembroke Lumber Kings coach Todd Clarke and former AAA player Grady Zohr to help lead the team.
The Renfrew Wolves host the Carleton Place Canadians at the Ma-Te-Way Centre tonight at 7:30 as they kick of the new CCHL season.
Coach Leonard says rally towels will be available for the crowd while supplies last.
