The Greater Arnprior Chamber of Commerce sponsored an All-Candidates forum for McNab-Braeside residents Thursday evening at McNab School.
Eight of the twelve candidates running for office in the Township’s municipal election answered with flat-out “no’s” when asked their opinion on the proposed Sustane Technologies pyrolysis plant planned for the local landfill.
Reporter Rick Stow elaborates.

While two incumbent representatives seeking reelection couched their responses with, “big decisions need multiple solutions,” and, “let’s look at the big picture, because this is not a small issue”, all of the newcomer nominees couldn’t find a good word to say. Two are present or former organic farmers, and one is running to be the voice of climate change on Council.
Lori Hoddenot, a candidate for Deputy Mayor, commissioned her own accounting analysis, which suggested that were Sustane’s model transposed here, the cost of dealing with garbage locally could rise 650k per year.
Even Mayor Tom Peckett, seen as the pyrolysis project’s greatest advocate, says he’s still in due dilligence mode, meaning that if one does the math, the Sustane Technologies garbage solution could already be cooked.
