Nine farms across Renfrew County will welcome visitors on Sunday as part of the first Farms Open event in the area. Event Organizer Marshall Buchanon is also the President of the Ottawa Valley Food Co-op, the President of the National Farmers Union of Renfrew County and owns Ottawa Valley Farm to Fork in Douglas. Buchanon says Mapleside Sugarbush, Forest Cove Alpacas, Shulist Family Farm, Sernoskie’s Tree Farm, Alder Creek Farm, Cardaleacres, Pinnacle Haven Farm, Calabogie Rustic Farm Market and his farm Ottawa Valley Farm to Fork will be taking part.
The Farms Open event in Renfrew County is similar to the Ottawa Valley Rural Ramble event that was hosted about 10-years ago, but with more of a focus on knowing where your food comes from.
Buchanon says it’s important to know how food is grown and produced and adds the event is an opportunity to meet local farmers.
The first ever Farms Open event in Renfrew County will be held on Sunday, September 18th from 10:00am to 4:00pm and organizers hope to turn it into an annual event.
