Renfrew’s Terry Fox Run returns in-full on Sunday, September 18th along the Algonquin Trail.
Walkers, runners, and rollers are all invited to take part in the first in person run since the COVID-19 pandemic, and Co-organizer Dan Donohue tells myFM that registration is available both through the Terry Fox Foundation website, as well on the day of the event.
This year’s edition of the Terry Fox Run will have a special prize to give away in support of cancer research.
Donohue says that longtime supporter Emma Russell has painstakingly created a quilt out of t-shirts from events held in previous years.
The quilt is on display at the Bonnechere Bakery and Bistro with tickets on sale for $2 each or 3 tickets for $5 at Scotiabank, Scott’s Shoe Store, Scott’s Hardware, Ottawa Valley Coffee, A Sense of Country, and Gourley’s Variety.
The money raised goes towards the Terry Fox Foundation in support of cancer research, and Donohue adds that Terry Fox Runs and school events in Renfrew have raised around $500,000 for cancer research since 1981, one year after Terry Fox embarked on his Marathon of Hope.
Registration will be held at the Ma-Te-Way Centre starting at 10:00am on Sunday, September 18th, with the run at 11:00am. The draw for the quilt will also take place at the event.
