The Pembroke Golf Club has secured their fourth straight Gordon Cup championship. The 93rd annual golf tournament was hosted at the Pembroke Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday. Local golfer Phil Hermitte says the team from Pembroke averaged a score of 74 over the two day tournament.
He adds the group from Pembroke are looking to catch up with the Renfrew Golf Club who has the most Gordon Cup wins at 36. With the victory in 2022, the Pembroke Golf Club is now at 30 championship wins. Hermitte says there was a stretch where Renfrew won the championship 14 out of 18 years.
Hermitte was the winner of the inaugural Slapper Memorial Award. He says it was an honour to win the award in memory of the late Brian “Slapper” Leroux.
Next year the Gordon Cup will be hosted in Renfrew and in 2024 the tournament will be hosted at Sand Point as the golf course in Arnprior celebrates their 100-year anniversary.
