The Caboose on O’Brien Road will get it’s lead paint removed, as another chapter in the CP Rail Caboose’s saga begins.
A memorandum of understanding from the Town of Renfrew was extended to a local volunteer group interested in saving the landmark after the motion was passed at Town Council’s August 9th meeting.
The document lays the expectations for the job out, and comes with $36,950 plus HST from the town to cover up-front costs for removal of the dangerous lead paint by Elite Environmental Services.
In return, the Friends of the Renfrew CP Caboose Group are expected to fundraise the total back over the next 36 months.
The town did square away around $5,000 in this year’s budget for a caboose project, with the volunteer group on the hook for at least $33,000 according the memo.
