The Eganville Curling Club is one of a few local recipients of grant money from the Ontario Sport Network.
Gerald Priestley with the Club tells myFM that the $30,000 they’ve received will go towards freshening up the clubhouse after the pandemic throttled their income.
Priestley says the carpeting around their ice surfaces will be the first thing to go, as the lint that lifts off it negatively impacts the game.
New flooring and furniture for the clubhouse are also on the to-do list this summer, as the hope is to increase curb appeal for the club to attract new members.
That’s not all, as the Township of Bonnechere Valley has also secured funding to make township owned buildings like the Curling Club wheelchair accessible.
Priestley says this will remove the problem of dirt and debris being dragged in by people entering the facility reducing the quality of the ice surface.
Work on the Eganville Curling Club is expected to be finished before the their season starts up after Halloween.
