In 2015 Valerie Findlay was a new resident to Ottawa’s West Carleton Ward.
She thought the rural lifestyle would be a fitting break from her city-based employment, but her presence wasn’t exactly subject to a welcome wagon visit.
As well, one of her horses was the object of equine abuse.
Findlay of course reported the matter to police, but two witnesses chose to recant their testimony and the matter was dropped.
Except that Findlay hasn’t forgotten; most every year she puts out a poster reminding the neighbourhood of what had transpired, and offering a reward for information.
This year she is circulating the poster to a wider area including Arnprior and eastern Renfrew County, and upping the reward.
Findlay says others have told her their own stories of pet poisonings, whether or not their issues are related- but with the perpetrators still at large, she believes four-legged family members potentially remain in danger.
