The pressure tanks at the water treatment plant in Beachburg are being replaced for the first time in roughly 70-years. A staff report reads the large pressure tank in the basement of the Beachburg Water Treatment Plant dates back to the 1950’s and maintains pressure within the distribution system. Environmental Services Superintendent Steve Hodson says the new tanks are expected to last 40-years. Council awarded the replacement of the pressure tanks to Harrington Mechanical at a cost of $88,654.
While work was approved in Beachburg, the Township of Whitewater Region decided to hold off on a project at the Cobden Water Treatment Plant. This comes after a number of quotes for sandblasting and recoating the interior surfaces came in over budget. The Township had budgeted $115,000 for work, but two estimates to do the job both came in around $600,000. The Ontario Clean Water Agency is recommending Whitewater Region consider a new package filter that will last 40-years instead of 15 to 20-years that refurbishing or recoating would offer. Township staff have been directed to work with the Ontario Clean Water Agency to find the most cost effective and sustainable options to either refurbish or replace the filter#1 at the Cobden Water Treatment Plant.
