Arnprior Town Council entertained a sixteen minute presentation from resident David Joy, of the “Stop the Tower” group at Monday’s (the June 27th) municipal meeting.
Joy is one of the parties organizing community resistance to the proposed 40 metre Rogers 5G cell tower planned for the intersection of Edward and McGonigal Streets in Arnprior.
The presenter outlined a number of negatives with the plan, including an expected 20% decline in property values, adverse aspects of electromagnetism that impede human nervous and auto-immune systems, and the toxicity of emissions on the health of insect pollinators.
The Stop-the-Tower spokesperson wants any alternative site to incorporate minimum 250 metre setbacks from residential dwellings, and 400 metres from critical infrastructure.
His petition has thus far attracted 836 signatures of Town residents opposed to the Rogers cell tower.
In discussion following David Joy’s presentation it was revealed that CRINS, (The Canadian Radiocommunications Information and Notification Service) which is allegedly representing the Town’s interest in the matter of the possible siting of the tower to another location is actually paid for its work through a stipend provided by Rogers Communications.
