It’s no miracle cure for the problems of garbage, but as things go, it’s pretty darn close.
That’s McNab-Braeside Mayor Tom Peckett, who has been making the rounds of municipal councils in both Renfrew and Lanark Counties as well as being in conversation with the City of Ottawa, trying to attract garbage to his Township.
Not only is the compression technology involved effective on most everything except mattresses and brake shoes, existing landfill sites can be mined of their old trash to make more space or reduce the hazard of leachate.
Sustain has told the Mayor their plant could be operational in a year or less, and the only cost to the municipality would be to upgrade the road standards for a five kilometre stretch leading to the plant’s proposed location at the existing McNab-Braeside landfill site.
