The big story at Arnprior Council came up at the very end under “Announcements”, as Mayor Walter Stack called to the attention of all the growing concerns over a planned 5G Rogers cellular tower on the grounds of Krown Rust Proofing at Edward and McGonigal in the community.
County Councillor Dan Lynch indicated during discussion he believes that the Rogers Tower referred to is part of the Eastern Ontario Regional Network’s plan to extend 5G coverage across Renfrew County.
All representatives who spoke to the matter advised they too had heard of the public’s worries, and of a petition circulating within the community opposing the 5G tower.
The location of cellular towers is authorized by Industry Canada in consultation with the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunication Commission and is not subject to Ontario’s Planning process.
But a 2014 revision requires Council add its John Henry.
Councillors voted unanimously to indicate their collective concern regarding the proposed cell tower location, and its potential public health and safety implications.
