The lone bid for a roadwork project on Haig Avenue, Joffre Avenue, and Dufferin Street near Ma-Te-Way Park was too pricy for Renfrew Town Council’s liking.
Council agreed at their Tuesday, May 24th meeting to put the project on the backburner and wait for more bids heading into next year.
Mike Asselin, Development and Works Director for the town, tells myFM that the price tag attached to the single finalized bid for the project came in nearly double the town’s budget for it.
While Asselin acknowledges that the three streets near Lisgar Avenue are in need of repairs, the Town will push back it’s plan for them to next year in an attempt to get a better price.
Asselin also notes that neighbouring townships are also dealing with few bids on their infrastructure projects.
The rising cost of gas and materials was also mentioned as potential contributing factors in the lack of bids for this project and others both locally and across rural Ontario.
