Work on O’Brien Road in Renfrew will go ahead this summer, but will not cover everything town council was hoping.
Council approved the new-look plan for the road connecting the town with Highway 60 at their Tuesday, May 24th meeting after the lone bid for the original plan came in around $2 Million dollars over budget.
Renfrew’s Director for Development and Works Mike Asselin tells myFM that the work to be done on O’Brien Road along Highway 60 is contingent on a time-sensitive, $3 Million Connecting Links grant from the provincial government.
Asking to delay the project was on the table, but Director Asselin says they ran the risk of losing the grant money.
Rather than just lose the money, Council agreed by a vote of 6-to-1 to do as much as they could with the funding and push the remaining to-do list for O’Brien Road to next year.
Work is expected to begin later this summer.
