First-time Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke Liberal candidate Oliver Jacob, at age 23, had toyed with the idea of becoming the youngest Grit elected locally, ever.
Sean Conway was 24 when he first took the seat back in 1975.
Jacob’s bubble was burst 18 minutes into the TV coverage when his five-week effort ended as the CBC declared John Yakabuski re-elected in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.
The Liberal nominee says the very low voter turnout could not so much be apathy as lethargy.
He says even in traditionally healthy Liberal polls like Deep River, there wasn’t much interest expressed in the election.
