Seniors’ programming in Arnprior and McNab-Braeside has become so popular it has outgrown both the Seniors’ Active Living Centre on Madawaska Street, and the Men’s Shed on Nieman Drive.
Enter Darrel O’Shaugnessy, who sees the dilemma as an opportunity and presented a plan on behalf of the Greater Arnprior Seniors Council at the Town’s municipal meeting Tuesday.
The initiative would see a consortium formed to repurpose the historic Christian Education Centre at 257 John Street North in Arnprior.
Tasks involved would be to identify and remediate possible lead piping and asbestos, an estimated ten thousand dollar job, hire an architect for 25k, and assume a first mortgage with an eventual plan to purchase the Centre from Grace United Church.
Each of the potential partners is putting up seven thousand dollars to inaugurate the initiative, which O’Shaugnessy would like to see accomplished within the year.
