Nursing Week at Renfrew Victoria Hospital came with a special gift from the hospital’s Auxiliary.
A May 12th donation from the Auxiliary on behalf of the estate of Frances Wilson, a surgical nurse herself, will go towards training and educating their nurses, enhancing the care they offer patients.
Renfrew Victoria Hospital CEO Julia Boudreau thanked the Auxiliary and the estate of Wilson, including friends and family, for the donation and adds that ongoing learning is part of the culture for the hospital.
Auxiliary President Janie Bilson tells myFM that RVH nurses will now get “the opportunity to further their training for many years to come” and adds that the funding comes “at a time when our healthcare is adapting to so many new ways of caring” for the community.
A group of eight nurses have stepped up to act as a committee to oversee the allocation of the new influx of funding.
Registered Nurse Katelyn Kinslow, a registered practical nurse and member of the new committee, calls the situation a win-win scenario, as nurses will get professional growth in areas of interest which will optimize patient care.
RVH Nursing Administrator Chris Ferguson says the hospital “has always embraced quality and safety,” and the donation “will further enhance [their] work to improve care” for their patients.
Nursing Week celebrates the medical professionals through the week of May 12th, the birthday of the person cited as the founder of modern nursing Florence Nightingale.
This year, Nursing Week ran May 9th-15th.
