The Local Immigration Partnership – Lanark & Renfrew is partnering with Ukrainian Diaspora Support Canada (UADSC) in creating a Volunteer Response Network.
The LIP’s Jodi Bucholtz tells us that UADSC is a registered Canadian not-for-profit organization, based out of Carleton Place, playing a key role in bringing fleeing Ukrainians to our country.
In Lanark and Renfrew Counties there are currently 416 displaced Ukrainian families are on the UADSC list, and 45 Ukrainians have already been successfully rehomed.
UADSC focuses on Visa applications, matching displaced Ukrainians with their future communities, and transportation to those new communities.
The Local Immigration Partnership- Lanark & Renfrew is working to grow the network of volunteers who will support the welcoming process.
Among those tasks are family home hosting, fundraising, translation, interim medical supports, and donation hubs.
Jodi Bucholtz, Manager of Local Immigration Partnerships-Lanark & Renfrew says ideally such a network will exist in each community across the two jurisdictions.
She says we are fortunate to have a considerable Slavic population in the Valley eager to help out.
